23 IITS OF INDIA

 


IITs- The Indian Institutes of Technology are the premier autonomous public technical and research universities located across India. 
They are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961, which has declared them as Institutes of National Importance and lays down their powers, duties, and framework for governance.

The original five IITs were established in the 1950s and early 1960s 
Four had a foreign collaborator: 
IIT Bombay (the Soviet Union), 
IIT Madras (Germany), 
IIT Kanpur (the United States), and 
IIT Delhi (the United Kingdom).
